OVI & DUI Defense in Ohio
What Is an OVI?
In Ohio, “OVI” stands for Operating a Vehicle Impaired. This charge applies when someone drives under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or a combination of both, even legal or prescription drugs.
You can be charged with an OVI if:
✔ Your BAC (blood alcohol concentration) is .08% or higher (.02% for drivers under 21)
✔ You fail a field sobriety test
✔ You refuse chemical testing and are deemed impaired by an officer
✔ You are allegedly impaired by marijuana, prescription drugs, or other substances
OVI Penalties in Ohio Can Include:
✔ License suspension (up to several years)
✔ Mandatory jail time or house arrest
✔ Thousands of dollars in fines
✔ Alcohol or drug treatment programs
✔ Points on your driving record
✔ Installation of an ignition interlock device
✔ Permanent criminal record
Don’t face an OVI charge alone. Even a first offense can carry serious consequences, and repeat offenses can escalate quickly. At PG Law, we review every aspect of your arrest testing procedures, police conduct, and probable cause to build a strong defense and fight for reduced or dismissed charges.

Traffic Violations & Driving Offenses

We Handle a Wide Range of Cases
Even a seemingly “minor” traffic offense can affect your record, increase your insurance premiums, and put your job at risk, especially if you drive for work or hold a CDL.
We work to keep points off your license, minimize penalties, and, when possible, get charges reduced or dismissed entirely.
What to Expect from the Legal Process
Step 1: Free Initial Consultation
We’ll evaluate your case, listen to your version of events, and give you a clear plan for next steps.
Step 2: Investigation & Defense Strategy
We review police reports, dashcam/bodycam footage, and field sobriety test procedures to identify legal errors or constitutional violations.
Step 3: Negotiation or Trial
Some cases can be resolved through plea bargaining or diversion. Others go to trial. Either way, we prepare thoroughly and advocate forcefully for your best possible outcome.

Common OVI & Traffic FAQs
Refusing a chemical test in Ohio triggers an automatic license suspension under the state’s
“implied consent” law. However, that refusal may also limit the prosecution’s evidence. We can advise you on how refusal impacts your case.
Yes. We may be able to challenge the stop, arrest procedure, or test results. In some cases, charges can be reduced to reckless operation or other lesser offenses.
Possibly. We may request a BMV administrative hearing or apply for limited driving privileges. Timing is critical. Contact us quickly after your arrest.
We understand how important your license is. We’ll work to protect your CDL or help secure limited driving privileges while your case is pending.
It depends on the offense. For example, speeding 11–29 mph over the limit adds 2 points; reckless driving adds 4. Accumulating 12 or more points within 2 years may lead to suspension.
